State of Training
Having joined a Muay Thai gym and decided to focus my efforts on being ready for a fight in later January (not sure if this will come through or not, but trying to put it together). Towards that end, I have been putting in 6-8 hours a week of training at Chok Sabai (over 4 days) and then spending one day’s training on pure strength. That gives me 2 rest days to recover, but usually 0-1 crossfit sessions per week.
That is disheartening, as I really enjoy CF, but every time in the last couple of weeks that I have tried to come in to class after 2 hours doing MT, I either bonk or just fall apart. Not a great feeling and probably adverse to my training goals, so I will just have to dial it back on the CF for a little while. Hate that though, as I can feel my conditioning dropping. Especially when I actually gassed during a heavy-bag workout last week!
On the up side, I did some medium intensity sparring yesterday and was finally able to put some defense together. Since my previous defense included stopping stuff with my face/thighs/ribs, this is a distinct improvement. Still need a ton of practice, but I am also able to put some combos together and respond to things on the fly. Also, got to focus on just boxing, which was a bunch of fun and allowed me to eat my first hard cross to the face.
Going forward, I am going to focus on taking 4 chok Sabai classes a week and 4 1 hour training session either with Kyle or by myself. Then I will also do strength training on Saturday, focusing on one O-lift, then the squat, a press and then the deadlift. Thursdays and Sundays are rest days, which kinda sucks since those are CFV team practice days. Sigh, can’t win them all.
